La Habra - March 15, 2005 – Juan Martinez has been appointed to manage the operations of La Habra Family Resource Center (FRC), according to Gloria Mayer, R.N., Ed.D., president of the Institute for Healthcare Advancement (IHA).
The resource center, which is housed at the IHA’s offices on Idaho Street, provides health education and in-home support services for pregnant women and families.
Martinez filled the post as manager on March 1, 2005. He is a native of Southern California and comes to the FRC after having served as the Director of Educational Services for the Boys and Girls Clubs of La Habra/Brea. Martinez has a degree in Chicano Latino Studies from the California State University Long Beach.
“My immediate goal is to make the family center more visible in the community,” said Martinez. “After the loss of the funding and closing of the doors at Imperial Middle School, many people thought the family center had closed. We will also increase our funding sources to expand our much needed counseling services, and bring back the FRC collaborative.”
The Center’s program services include medical home visits with a healthcare advocate and public health nurse; health insurance screening and application assistance; immunization and developmental screening; health, safety and parent education in the home, identifying accessible medical attention for the entire family; case management; and referrals to community agencies and other support services.
