Thank you to the over 360 people who attended Institute for Healthcare Advancement’s 14th Annual Health Literacy Conference!

Thank you to the over 360 people who attended Institute for Healthcare Advancement’s 14th Annual Health Literacy Conference!

The presence and participation of our attendees made this year’s three day conference a huge success. Our conference participants had the opportunity to learn about practical and effective health literacy solutions, ranging from how to write and design effective communication to how to integrate health literacy into an organizational structure. Our conference also offered our attendees interactive experiences that included the panel on Health Equity and Health Literacy and Lessons-Learned from the Affordable Care Act and breakout sessions that taught participants how to use Twitter to convey simple health messages and a skills workshop in which attendees learned best practices for creating patient-friendly documents to satisfy legal departments.

As in previous conferences, our speakers received a warm welcome and offered valuable insights. Our opening keynote speaker, Cynthia Baur, Ph.D.,  delivered an impactful presentation on lessons about clarity and crisis and emergency risk communication. All our speakers shared clearly defined solutions to solve health literacy issues that attendees can effectively put in practice in their organizations. We hope to hear back from conference attendees on how they are putting what they learned to use via our IHA Health Literacy LinkedIn group. Please click the link to join, participate and support others in this group.

Our poster session brought an engaged crowd of attendees, who listened and talked to presenters about a wide variety of health literacy projects. The posters addressed educational tools for patients and professionals, research projects, and the application of health literacy principles within various fields, including public health, technology, and healthcare reform.

It was also our great pleasure to honor the following award recipients for their accomplishments and contributions to health literacy:

Health Literacy Hero Award Winner – Cynthia Baur, PH.D., Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)
